Real People. Real Support. Real Change
Peer support is needed now more than ever!
Peer support and mental health resources are vital in helping individuals cope with the added stress and trauma caused by extreme weather conditions.
The Need for Personal Care Supplies is Great
Many, if not all of our peers who are unhoused, are vulnerable to increasing weather-related crisis. If you’re able to help, we are in need of the following items:
- 1-pound propane tanks
- Tents
- Men’s new underwear
- Socks
- Hygiene supplies (body lotion, shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes)
- Coffee and creamer
To arrange for a drop-off or pick-up of donated items, please contact
Jessica Hartley at JHartley@sunriseinasheville.org or call 828-552-3858. Items can be dropped off or mailed to our Drop In Community Center at 209 Tunnel Road, Asheville NC 28805 or we can come to your location and pick them up!
At Sunrise Community for Recovery and Wellness, we understand both the devastation and the courage it takes to recover. And we know that we can’t do it alone. Recovery doesn’t happen in isolation; it happens in community.
Thank you for being part of this caring community—the one that offers support, compassion, and hope without judgment or stigma. Because of you, Sunrise was able to provide authentic peer support, resource connection, and education through our team of more than 50 incredible staff members who use their lived experience in recovery from substance use and mental health challenges to meet peers exactly where they are.
Together, we are rebuilding lives.
With your support, some of our 2025 highlights include:
- Serving as a distribution hub during Helene Recovery and distributing thousands of basic needs items including food/water, clothing, cleaning products, and hygiene items to our community of peers who were devastated by the storm.
- Providing 207 support groups and community activities with more than 6,000 peers.
- Opening our Tohi Edasdi Recovery Community Center on the Qualla Boundary serving members of the EBCI tribe and peers in surrounding areas, providing culturally rooted activities with a recovery focus.
- Providing 3,542 overdose-reversal kits which saved a reported 662 lives!
But nothing reflects the impact we have better than the words of our peers. Sean, aka “Struggle” was a regular at our Drop-In Recovery Center.
“Sunrise was my guiding light to what recovery could look like. I would come into the Drop In Center and not say a word to anyone. But ya’ll came up to me. Asked me how I was doing. Did I need a cup of coffee or water? You can’t know what that did for me. It changed my life.”
With help from our staff, Struggle went into treatment and is substance-free, he is living in his own apartment for the first time in a decade, he has re-connected with his family and is enrolled in classes to become a Certified Peer Support Specialist.

From the moment that I walked in, Sunrise staff knew I wanted my life back, and have helped me in the process of getting on my feet again.
I have been in and out of recovery for 16 years and this is the best place I have ever witnessed! Sunrise staff have made my life completely different since the moment I came through the door.
They have gotten me funding, employment, recovery connections and most important HOPE again. My children say thank you. My husband says thank you. I say THANK YOU. Absolutely amazing! I will recommend you all endlessly
