Trainings
Sunrise’s Training opportunities offer individuals the chance to improve their professional and interpersonal skills and are open to anyone interested in completing the courses. You do not have to be a Certified Peer Support Specialist to attend our trainings, in fact, these trainings are great for anyone interested in recovery support, improving listening skills or creating a wellness plan on a personal or professional level.

The CCAR Recovery Coach Academy© is a 5-day intensive training academy focusing on providing individuals with the skills needed to guide, mentor and support anyone who would like to enter into or sustain long-term recovery from an addiction to alcohol or other drugs. Cost: $100 and registration required HERE.
The Wellness Recovery Action Plan® or WRAP® is a self-designed prevention and wellness process that anyone can use to get well, stay well and make their life the way they want it to be. It was developed in 1997 by a group of people who were searching for ways to overcome their own mental health issues and move on to fulfilling their life dreams and goals. Cost: $50 and registration required HERE
Messaging Training discusses and defines the stigma surrounding substance use and mental health recovery. It will challenge participants to consider recovery words and concepts that are often used but that are detrimental to people in recovery.
Forensic Peer Support is a person-centered, strength based support system offered to individuals who are or have been involved in the criminal justice system. Cost : $350 and registration required HERE
Problem Gambling Training: In partnership with the NC Problem Gambling Administration, Sunrise Community has created a first of its kind Problem Gambling training for Recovery Coaches! This training defines the hidden addiction of problem gambling while showing the correlation between problem gambling and mental health/substance use struggles.
Harm Reduction is any action towards a healthier lifestyle… Harm reduction is a proven approach to addressing and reducing risky behaviors. Learn about the benefits of implementing harm reduction and the tools that help promote a healthier community. (FREE)
Naloxone Training: Learn how to reverse an opioid overdose with our Peer Support Specialists at the Safe Syringe Program within Buncombe County Health and Human Services on the first Friday of every month from 12:00 pm to 1 pm at the BCDHHS building at 40 Coxe Ave. No matter the community, this training will save lives. Verbal De-Escalation: Communication is 55% body language, 38% tone and only 7% words. This training goes in depth on the aspects of communication and the tools to deescalate a broad range of situations. (FREE)
