Peer Support Specialists are people living in recovery with mental illness and / or substance use disorder and who provide support to others whom can benefit from their lived experiences. The North Carolina Certified Peer Support Specialist Program provides acknowledgment that the peer has met a set of requirements necessary to provide support to individuals with mental health or substance use disorder. This 50-hour class, Pathways to Recovery, will inform, engage and educate you on what it means to be a Peer Support Specialist, how to create boundaries to protect your safety and wellness, and is a major step in your certification process so you can begin your profession as a Certified Peer Support Specialist. Completing the application below is the first step in your journey to becoming a Certified Peer Support Specialist. After you have completed the application, you will be contacted for an interview and discussion about pre-work. Pre-requisites: The following must be completed before you can take the Pathway to Recovery Peer Support Specialist class:

  • Application 
  • 30-minute interview
  • Pre-work (this will be further explained in the interview)
