Why it’s important to give today!
A recent report shows that Buncombe County is exceeding the number of overdose deaths in the state, with a staggering 45.2 deaths per 100,000 residents, compared with 35.8 deaths for the state as a whole.
But you can help stem this growing crisis with your gift to Sunrise. Your gift will help Sunrise continue to provide life-saving connections, resources and hope for our community. Our innovative programs have been highlighted in local and state initiatives as solutions to this daunting crisis.
Valued at $154, this special set from East Fork Pottery is made up of two of their newly released mugs, two cake plates and two side plates in their new core colors Blue Ridge and Black Mountain. The small mugs are made with their retired taro glaze color and have never been sold before. Everything is lead-free and dishwasher and microwave-safe.
Any size donation is eligible for the drawing. If you would like to be entered into the drawing without making a donation, please contact Jodi Ford at JFord@sunriseinasheville.org.
Tyler Grooms is a success, thanks to his will to forge a pathway to wellness and his engagement with Sunrise's programs. Tyler is a graduate of our Peer University which helped him become a Certified Peer Support Specialist. He is now the coordinator of Sunrise's Linkage to Care Re-entry program and recently advocated for this program to the Buncombe County Board of Commissioners. He shared a few words about the impact Sunrise has had on his journey to wellness.
"Sunrise has provided me with a platform to grow. I had spent over a decade in addiction taking the hard road on every issue that comes with drug use. I overdosed close to 100 times. Sunrise has given me an opportunity to share my insight and experiences with others in similar situations.
I am a full circle staff member, one who had received services when I was at my lowest point in life and now I get to return the favor to the next person.
I am the Sunrise Linkage to Care Coordinator. I am very passionate about this program, I’m helping people who are coming out of prisons or jails get back into society just like what was done for me. I am a SUCCESS story today thanks to the Sunrise Community keeping faith alive, knowing that I wasn’t alone. I’ve got friends and family locked up all over the state and I continue to inspire and uplift anyone who is in addiction.
Today, life is better than I could have ever imagined. I have actual friends that care for me. I’ve repaired all the damage I did to my family. I am no longer a product of my environment. I am a chain breaker.”
